Men's Health Article on F3

What is F3?

F3 is a national network of free, peer-led workouts for men. Our mission is to plant, grow and serve small workout groups for men for the invigoration of male community leadership.

Why should I work out with F3?

Please see Testimonials for some of our individual members' responses to this question. In general F3 workouts will get you in great shape and will re-invigorate your workout routine since the types of exercises vary based on who is leading. There's also something about working out in a group that pushes men to dig deeper in a workout and accomplish more. Plus since the workouts are early in the morning you can be done working out before you have to fulfill your other responsibilities for the day. Many of our members stop paying for their gym memberships since they don't need a gym anymore after starting with F3. Also it's a great way to meet men in the community.

How much does it cost to attend a workout?

Nothing. F3 is and always will be free.

How do I find a workout?

See Workout Schedule & Locations

Is it okay if I'm not in great shape?

Yes. We welcome men of all ages and ability levels. One of our mottos is, "modify as necessary," although please consult with your doctor prior to beginning a new workout routine. When you are first starting, it is important to remember to MODIFY exercises as needed during the workout. If you want to go harder – go harder. If you have not exercised in a long time, slow down. Don’t hurt yourself or even worse, get discouraged. Just show up, work hard and give it your best. That is all that matters. We are not here competing against one another. We are freaking proud of you for showing up at 5:30 in the morning to exercise!

What do I need to bring to a workout?

Essentially yourself, appropriate workout clothes, and a positive attitude. Work gloves and a water bottle are strongly recommended as well.

What are the workouts like?

The workouts generally last 45-60 minutes. The duration and type of workout is specified on the Workout Schedule & Locations page. Bootcamp workouts begin with the group circling up to perform a short warm-up followed by the main workout. Since the workouts are peer-led and the leader--also known as the 'Q'--changes frequently, the exercises within the main workout will vary. Body weight exercises or strength training with bricks or concrete blocks may be used. The workout ends with a Circle of Trust where the group circles up to discuss upcoming events, prayer requests/concerns, a message from the Q, and there is a prayer to end the workout.

Can you tell me more about some of the terms used at F3 workouts including the names for exercises?

Please see the F3 Lexicon and F3 Exercise List. When you first show up if you introduce yourself as an, "FNG"--which stands for, "Friendly New Guy"--someone will tell you more about some of the more commonly used terms and exercises.

Can you tell me more about the F3 nicknames?

Every man who attends an F3 workout is given a nickname at the end of the workout.

How does F3 define its third F--faith?

The faith of F3 is simply a recognition of something outside oneself and is not one specific religion or faith system. We welcome members of all religions and faith systems to the workouts.

Does F3 do anything besides host workouts?

Yes! The 2nd F of F3 is fellowship--members often organize social events and happy hours outside of workouts. The 3rd F of F3 is faith--members often get together in small groups and bible studies. We also engage in volunteering/community service, along with local/regional races and events.
